HOW TO CHECK IF YOU WERE PART OF FACEBOOK’S DATA BREACH

So, we all know about the major Facebook hack that took place a couple of weeks ago. Many Facebook users are still worried about the safety of their personal information. Users just don’t know if their accounts were hacked or not. Here’s how to check if you were part of Facebook’s data breach.

How to Check If You Were Part of Facebook’s Data Breach

Just like some best online casinos, Facebook has created a new system that can help you find out if your account was hacked or not. You can now easily check whether your account was affected in Facebook’s recent data breach. Here’s how:

  • Log into Facebook
  • Go to go to https://www.facebook.com/help/securitynotice
  • Scroll down to the bottom of the page
  • Right at the bottom of that page, there will be a notification. It will inform you whether your account is among the thirty million affected by the breach.

This is the message I received from Facebook when I used the tool:

Is my Facebook account impacted by this security issue?

Based on what we’ve learned so far, your Facebook account has not been impacted by this security incident. If we find more Facebook accounts were impacted, we will reset their access tokens and notify those accounts”.

If you use the tool and find out that your account was compromised, there’s really not much you can do at this point. Facebook’s most recent update on the situation states that users’ names, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses were taken.

About 1 million of the 30 million affected had their accounts accessed by the hackers but none of their personal information was taken. The other 14 million had their data compromised. This included their usernames, gender, language, relationship status, religion, current city, birthdate, device types used to access Facebook and hometown. Education, work, website, people/pages they follow, 15 most recent searches and last 10 places they checked into was compromised too.

Also, note that your password was not at risk so there’s no need to change it. But the company is making online pokies real money style security changes designed to make the platform impervious to hackers.

The good news is that the most sensitive piece of information here is the birthdate. Birth dates can be useful to identity thieves. For this reason, we recommend that you do not make your birthdate public on Facebook.
